Here’s One I Made Earlier by Andrea Parker, 2007

I’ve been working on the drum parts for “puppy” and “lemon”, and listening to Plaid and Orbital for a little inspiration. I’m looking for crisp, clear, clicky, head nodding electro sounds for these two, to contrast with the heavier and deeper drum tracks that will be in the four tracks that follow them. Mentally, I’ve divided the album into three sections: the first three songs which will start introspective and develop into something playful, the next four will build up some energy and groove, the last three again introspective now with a nostalgic feel. I’m planning to try to get these first three to an almost done stage, and then work on the next four together and get them to the same place, then the last three together.
Originally I wasn’t planning to have any drum sounds on “lemon”, but I decided to add them in a few places to keep things interesting and help play with the energy feel in specific spots. I’m planning to use the CR-78 and ER-1 for “puppy”, the 606 and maybe samples of the Rhythm Ace for “lemon”. EQing with the UAD Neve plugins, but again trying to keep things sounding crisp rather than heavy. Also using the new Sonalksis TBK compressor which punches things up. Overall things are sounding good, but still need a little more work…

In Sides by Orbital, 1996

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock, 1973

I made a quick unprocessed CR-78 sample set, just the CR-78 through light Culture Vulture distortion, that I loaded into the Electribe ESX-1 and am using to write the “puppy” CR-78 drum sequences before I program them into the actual CR-78 and record them. The samples are nothing special and are a little noisy, but you can always use more drum samples, right? So there you go.
